HSF 2008 Mowing Schedule

Updated 6-14-08

Meeting Minutes:
Total # of members present: 39
President Todd Brueggeman opened the meeting: Thanked Mike Funk, Mark Conroy, Chris Bourne & Jon Athans for the YMCA Demo Fly. The little kids especially loved it. Overall, a well received event.
Annual dues need to be received by regular August meeting. If not received by that date one will have to reapply as new member plus $40 initiation fee.
Presented proposed changes to club By-laws for member vote as follows: 15 member quorum must be present for any changes to club by-laws. 30 day waiting period to expel a member for misconduct has been eliminated. 2/3 majority of 15 member quorum (10 members) are needed to reinstate a former member after they makes their case before the quorum. Dues restructuring language from last year’s constitution was eliminated because our new fiscal year is now July-June. Proposed new member dues be set at $100 plus $40 initiation fee. The club secretary shall record the minutes from every monthly club meeting. $25 work day assessment removed from by-laws.
Vote was taken and changes to our constitution were approved by over 2/3 of the members present.

Treasurer’s Report (Billy Howard)
Billy stated that the club has $XXXX in general account. @ $XXXX collected at today’s meeting & over $XXXX in dues to be collected by August meeting.
We have 98 active members with our cap at 100. Reasoning for cap is to keep the club small enough that everyone will have the opportunity to fly, even on the busiest flying days.

Vice President/Field Mgr Report (Mike Funk)
We are looking at a new mower with a 0 degree turning radius & a 60” deck. It will cut the field mowing time down to @ 30-45 min. Cost range is between $2000-$3500. The shed will need to be cleaned out in order to make room for this new mower. Some junkyard wars items will have to go. He proposed that we sell off the smallest/slowest current mower to allow additional space for new mower. Mike also proposed installing shelves in the shed to better utilize storage space.
2/3 majority approved up to $3000 for a new mower

Safety Briefing (John Norwood)
Be very careful around spinning props, especially large props on gas engines. Never start an engine with your bare hands. Remember that we need a spotter if over 3 flight stations are occupied.

Club conducted nomination process for 2008-2009 officers

Vice President/Field Mgr
Club Community Liaison/Event Coordinator

We do not need the FAA or some other government entity shutting down our flying field to all members because on member thinks it is funny or that he has the right-of-way over a full-scale aircraft.

Entry fee: $20 per team

Basic event rules: 4 hrs build time, 40-46 glow or electric equivalent, min flying weight 4 lbs.

Good Work Guys! Click to Enlarge

I would like to recognize the members of our club who took the time Saturday October 14, 2006 to come out and help make our club a better place to fly through continuous improvement. Through their efforts, Dick Schiveley’s vision is becoming more and more a reality. Over the past several months we have made several improvements to our field: we have an additional shade structure, a new frequency board that would probably make other clubs envious, a new communications bulletin board, a helicopter shade structure, a total of 12 set up tables, new seating benches that also act as a shelter barrier to possible runaway aircraft. We also had another load of crushed concrete put in under the shelters to maintain a dry-footed environment and the muddy spots in front of the shelters have been filled in with some sand. Bedford did a fantastic job as usual by designing and kitting the new tables. Thanks to John Norwood for a fantastic job in painting the Benches and bleachers. My gratitude also goes to those who helped in the construction of the tables and spreading the sand. I feel certain that those who participated in the workday walked to your cars with a sense of pride and accomplishment as I did...I extend my thanks to you all for a job well done!

Thanks,

Todd
HSF President

Mike Funk had also requested through e-mail that his group of of racers would like to use our field for a race 04/01/06. The vote to approve his request was unanimous.

Todd Brueggeman requested that all members send him an e-mail so that his list is current. This is the best way to improve communication with the club. Especially with all the issues the club is facing this year.

Steve Minter spoke briefly about improvements to the club’s bulletin board. Participation is highly encouraged.

A motion was made that the regular club meeting that is held the second Saturday of April each year be designated Founder’s Day in Honor of Dick Shively. This was seconded and voted unanimous in favor of.

New Business

Gentlemen,

First let me thank you for taking the time from your families on a Sunday morning to conduct HSF business. I found it to be informative,
productive, and enjoyable. I would like to briefly summarize what was discussed and our plan of action. We have determined that we can
fly from our existing location for an unknown amount of time by re orientating the runway and flight line. It was agreed that this would only
be a temporary solution while plans are made for our future site and pending Harris County approval of those plans. I listed below a plan of
action and requests:

Temporary Location

On 02.25-02.26.06, Todd Brueggeman and John Foresteri to measure and stake the runway at the current location thus producing a
reorientation of the runway some 15 degrees more southeast and northwest.

Todd Brueggeman will schedule a workday for 03.04.06 the field will be closed while the work is being performed; open flying thereafter.
Workday to consist of but not be limited to:
  • Dragging the runway with fence material
  • Rolling the runway
  • Grass seeding
  • Moving no-fly zone outer markers
  • Rebuilding new pilot stations.

Mike Funk please advise Todd/John or pick up at your discretion what is to be needed for these improvements.

Permanent Location

I believe we reached a Conesus that a new flying site within the current Harris County Flood control District will provide an optimum
long-term solution to our dilemma of encroaching neighbors and will provide the least impact to them as well as our club. I am asking
for help in the following areas:

1-Mark Conroy please facilitate plans as you did for presentation to the county and to the AMA for grant
approval. Given your fantastic software abilities, I would like to have
these just soon as possible so that plans, photos and overlays can be blown up on
presentation boards (I could use some ideas on how to do this) for county approval, and a smaller
version to enclose to the AMA for grant approval. Once completed,

2-Jim Sheffield: has volunteered to coordinate a meeting with Harris County

3-Billy Howard/Mike Funk please examine the plans that Mark provides and provide a costs
analysis for moving to the permanent site based on past club spending as well as
estimates for any other foreseeable costs, i.e., crushed concrete, additional shelter,
culverts, brush hog/ box blade tractor rental, etc.

4- Billy Howard please send out an e-mail as soon as you can to the members who have not paid their
dues advising them that if they are not paid by the March meeting, that they will have to reapply and be
voted in as a new member. (FYI- I would like to change the lock at the March meeting with a new
combo and furnish a list of members to Steve Mintor to update the member section of the website).
This will also give us a better idea on how much revenue we have for improvements/moving, etc.

5-Todd Brueggeman/John Foresteri shall compile all information to the proper AMA
channels for grant submission no later than March 15, 2006.

I do not mean to sound presumptuous of your volunteer efforts. But from what I gathered at the breakfast and the subsequent field
inspection is that we are all like-minded, involved individuals with a love for this hobby. I feel that we also share a common goal and a
mission before us to keep our promise to Dick Shively and to keep this club at least as good if not better than before. By creating this
list, I do not mean to appear too formal. I just don’t want to leave any stones unturned if at all possible. If you feel there is something I left
out, overlooked, or you would rather not do, please let me know, and I will revise and re-email to all. Thanks for your support.
Todd
