HSF Meeting Minutes
July 10, 2010
Meeting opened approximately 10am by President Martin Stohr first thanking
Todd Brueggeman and is ‘cabinet’ for the past few years of dedicated work.
Martin went on to say that his first month in office has been a challenge right
from the start, but feels that with a lot of open communication from everyone that any and all issues can be taken care of.
Last month after elections, idea was brought up to section off the club; Martin said today that our club would stay just the way it is. He welcomes input from everyone. This is a club for all, we have room for planes, heli’s, control line, etc. We ALL share the club and the responsibilities. Martin stated that this was a club for fun, enjoyment and not for business’ to run out of the club.
Prospective members, “social thing”…would like to see them here at the field other than the day they are to be voted on, to interact with the club, and get to know a little about the person.
Guest sent by Larry’s or other shops, to the field for HSF to teach them how to fly…will have to be at our discretion. Perspective new members need to be with their sponsor’s to fly. All members should ‘police the non-members’.
**New members may be voted on at next month’s meeting.
We had more vandalism, situation is getting bad.
Club dues will be staying at the $125., There are hopes of expanding the club facilities and this will help.
‘Three Rules’…safety, get along with everyone and have a good time. Use common sense and your best judgment.
Be aware of other flyers, don’t fly ‘crazy’…”no skeet shooting”!!
Club mowing was brought up….need volunteers.! Todd stayed and mowed, used the weed eater and blew off the runway on Saturday. Mike Funk finished what was left on Sunday. Thank you guys… ?
Martin said that he would like to see on each meeting day, an un-official swap meet…bring things to sell, give away, etc.
VP-Dave Braunagel mentioned that John Norwood has the AMA guidelines for his new huge plane.
Treasurer, Todd Brueggeman reported that he received word from the county that our road should be repaired by the end of the month and their locks replaced.
Question asked about marking the front lock to distinguish the lock for club.
Todd said that he will mark it ‘HSF’.
Area is almost finished for the new container, by the yellow gate. Wood shelter agreed on for the control line area. Pay Pal set up on website.
Will get fill dirt for under the blue sheds to help deter the accumulation of water.
Todd asked for any other questions? One reply…”where did you get that hat”?!
Safety Co-coordinator, Rob Faust brought up about the dogs (pets) at the field. It is a safety issue all the way around, for your pet, planes and us. If the field is busy, please keep your pet on a leash. Not to mention the excrement from the dogs…not pleasant to step in. Please clean up the mess!
Frequency Pins…if you have 2.4 radios no pins is necessary, but you must wear you ID badge and AMA card on your person. ALL others must put their HSF/AMA badge on board and put the frequency pin on your person.
Know your individual ability to fly! Rob says that if you are not up to par, just can’t seem to keep it safe on the field, in the air…Please do not get out there and fly. Think safety…
“Active Runway”…let the other pilots know that you are entering the area to fly.
Electric flyers…please set up on the shed side of the fence, (not on side by the pilot stations.)
Pilot stations…move closer together for better communication between pilots. The starting stands will be moved close together as well.
If you have a personal issue with another member, keep it between yourselves!
The club and members are not here to be babysitters.
Meeting adjourned approximately 10:40am

General Membership Meeting
June 12, 2010
Club president Todd Brueggeman called the meeting to order at 10:05 am
There were approximately 36 members present.
President’s Report:
Todd Brueggeman proposed raising next year’s dues by $25 to $125 to cover unexpected expenses throughout the year. He said he would like to have approximately $2500 left in the account at years end. The proposal was put before a quorum of the members present. The motion carried with a majority of those members present. The new dues for 2010-2011 will now be $125 annually. The new $125 HSF membership renewals for 2010-2011 are due by our July club meeting on July 10th. This is a drop dead date. If dues are not received by the end of that meeting you will have to reapply as a new member.
Todd also said he has talked to the county concerning the entry road condition. There has been progress toward that repair. The road will be graded and then covered with crushed concrete. Unfortunately the field will have to be closed during the repairs. This should not take more than a few days. An email will be sent out to the members before work begins.
Todd asked if anyone could provide chainsaws to clear an area for the new storage shed that we have planned to purchase. Please contact him if you can help with this project. Dave Braunagel will be providing the Bobcat for land clearing.
We still have HSF caps for sale at $14.00. Please pay by check or exact change.
July 17th will be our HSF Picnic Fly-In. There will be a $10 landing fee to fly that day to cover the expenses of the event. Lunch will provided; sausage, tortillas, watermelon and drinks. Todd will need help with trash carry out as his neighborhood as a one can limit per week for pick-up.
The current one vote rule to deny a prospective member from joining the club has been proposed to be a 2 vote rule. It will be discussed further by the new incoming president at a future meeting to change this bylaw.
Our field was vandalized last week and someone tried to gain access to our locked storage shed damaging the latches. Todd has proposed that we have an avadavat on file with the county so that if we catch someone in the act we can then press charges.
We had 6 guests in attendance who have applied for HSF membership this coming year. There are 4 more that have applied that were not this month’s meeting. Those in attendant were:
Geoff Humphries-20 yrs experience with RC cars, 1 ½ yrs with helis
Frank Knighten- new heli enthusiast
WA Selph – previous member reapplying for membership, RC sport airplanes
Richard Grogan-pro control line flyer, in the hobby since 1965
Matt Baccari- current member of Sparks RC flying club, electric pylon enthusiast
Bob Organ-RC flyer since 1969, current member of Tri-County Barnstormer, looking for a new club to join

General Membership Meeting
May 8, 2010
Club president Todd Brueggeman called the meeting to order at 10:05 am
There were approximately 24 members present.
President’s Report:
Todd Brueggeman discussed with the members present about moving up the nominations for 2010-2011 officers. Usually this takes place in July with the election held in August. This proposed date change would allow for the next executive council to be in place as our next fiscal year begins in August 2010. An email has already been sent outlining this new proposal. Nominations for president as well as the other officer positions can be sent by email to Todd directly. Todd has previously indicated that he would not seek another term as our president. He feels that after 4 years as our president it is time that someone else assumes the leadership role. There are currently 3 email nominations for president, John Forestieri, Martin Stohr and David Braunagel. There have been no email nominations for any of the other positions as of yet.
The HSF membership renewals for 2010-2011 are due by our July club meeting on July 10th. This is a drop dead date. If dues are not received by the end of that meeting you will have to reapply as a new member.
Junk Yard Wars has been confirmed for next Saturday 5/15. This year’s rules have already been posted on the HSF website. One notable change, after a quick vote by members present, transmitter mixing will be allow this year.
At the conclusion of the meeting there were 4 teams confirmed to participate.
Team Double Trouble (Kong Ho, Scot Gunter, Anthony Martin, & Frank Forestieri)
Team Chopparzzi (Mark Conroy, Dale Furneaux, Rich Morrow & TBD)
Team 3 *name TBD (Jeff Kitterman, Ed Gallup, Shawn Braunagel, & Steven Vande Lune )
Team Electro Junk (Chris Bourne, Steve Minter, Kyle Hunt, & James Eledge)
Team 5 *name TBD (John Norwood, Dave Braunagel, Johnny Rawls
Our pilots meeting will begin at 7am with the 4 hr building time to start at 7:30 am. After all the airplanes have been constructed we will serve lunch at approximately noon. The static judging and flight completion will start shortly thereafter. If we don’t go over the 4 hour allotted building time we should be able to wrap up the event in the early afternoon.
Starting this year there will be a $10 landing fee for participation in special events, with one exception, our Founders Day event. The 2010 Junk Yard Wars competition will also have this $10 landing fee. The fee will be to cover building materials as well as the provided lunch and refreshments.
Treasurer’s Report:
Club treasurer Bill Howard was not present at this month’s meeting. President Todd Brueggeman reported that we currently have $XXX.XX in our general account and that we still have a $ XX.XX credit with eBay. This credit is from a mistake on the order of our Honda generator.
We are still discussing the purchase of a new shed for storage of clean items such as the generators, and other miscellaneous items. The cost will be approximately $1100. The current shed will be delegated to storage of the mowers and field maintenance equipment.
Club Member Tomas was given the floor:
Tomas asked if we had heard anything from the county about the repair of our main entrance road. President Todd Brueggeman said that it had been several months since the county began taking bids for the repairs of our road. We have not yet had any confirmation as to when those repairs would begin. He said he would follow up with the county this coming week.

General Membership Meeting
February 13, 2010
Club president Todd Brueggeman called the meeting to order at 10:00 am
There were approximately 36 members present.
President’s Report:
Todd Brueggeman discussed the idea of a solar power system at our field originally presented to him by club member James Malek. The club members present voted the idea down. Issues of total cost, the long length of the power run from the shed and the problem of securing the batteries from vandals were cited as primary reasons to reject the proposal at this time. Also it was brought up that there is only about 5 hours per day where sunlight would actually provide any useable electric power.
Club member Chris Bourne also brought up the idea of wind power. It was also rejected for similar reasons at this time.
Todd Brueggeman proposed that we put together an order of new HSF logo T-shirts, caps and sweat shirts. This would be unlike previous orders in that this order would be for those item ordered to spec. We will not be ordering T-shirts in bulk as we have in previous years. Todd will send out an email with details soon.
Everyone should have received their 2010 membership cards. Only 2 current HSF members have not renewed their required 2010 AMA membership.
There is a new AMA flying field being started in Magnolia, TX by HSF members JC Knoll and Jim McWilliams. Since HSF is currently at its membership cap, this would be a good suggestion for anyone who is looking for a club to join in the area. It is a small club looking to add new members. Membership if Todd recalls correctly, is $50 annually with a onetime $ 50 initiation fee. They want to put together a team to compete in our annual Junk Yard Wars competition-which we welcome of course!
Also Lone Star Fighter Field will probably be shutting down due to its lack of members.
The poor condition of our entry road was discussed with Sandy at Harris County Pct. IV. The road will eventually be improved however its repair must be put up for bid from Harris County Flood Control. Due to the bad weather this winter, the project has not yet moved forward. Also according to Sandy, eventually the entire perimeter of our flying site will be fenced in with chain link.
March 20th is our annual Founders Day Fly-In. Our regular club meeting that month will be on March 13th. Todd is looking for volunteers to help with the cooking and cleaning this year. We need people who can carry out trash as Todd’s neighborhood trash pick-up has to fit into only one small plastic bin.
Treasurer’s Report:
Club Treasurer Bill Howard reported that we currently have $XXXX.XX in our general account and a $ XXX.XX credit with eBay. This credit is from a mistake on the order of our Honda generator.
We are still discussing the purchase of a new shed for storage of clean items such as the generators, and other miscellaneous items. The cost will be approximately $XXXX. The current shed will be delegated to storage of the mowers and field maintenance equipment.
Club Member Jon Athans was given the floor:
Jon proposed the idea of a adding a model truck track to HSF. The addition of approximately 40 new non-flying members could bring in approximately $6000 to $15000 annually in new dues. It could be a great financial benefit to the club. This track would be only for the larger RC trucks and not the small entry level models. Because it was cold and a couple of members complained they were too uncomfortable, the idea has been slated for future discussion by Jon and Todd after Todd has some exploratory research. At some future date the proposal may be presented to the entire club for a vote.
Safety Officers Report:
Helicopter Safety Officer Ron Faust discussed the issue of unsafe flying. There is a big difference between safe and controlled 3D flying and just wild out of control flight. Every pilot should know his limitations and first master the fundamentals. First practice any new maneuver on the simulator. Mark Conroy brought up the point that it would be horrible if you were that wild pilot and a preventable accident caused us to lose our flying privileges at this site. Would you want to be that person? It is up the EVERY club member to point out when someone is flying unsafe. We have to all police ourselves or we could very well lose this field. This is a serious mater!
Todd made the point that pilots should not fly beyond their aircraft means either!
Club member Frank Foresteri was given the floor:
Frank proposed a motion that we raise the membership cap of HSF by 14. It was overwhelmingly voted down by the general membership. The idea will be brought up again after membership renewals in July.
Club member Jeff Kitterman was given the floor:
Jeff proposed a Stryker combat event. It could possibly be held at our current 2.4 GHZ foamy field. That means spread spectrum only, no 72.5 MHZ due to frequency control issues. The idea met with a general approval from all the members present. Jeff will explore the item and present it to the club at a later date.

HOUSTON SPORT FLYERS
General Membership Meeting
Saturday August 8, 2009
Club president Todd Brueggeman called the meeting to order at 10:00 am
There were approximately 31 members and 9 guests present.
President’s Report:
Today is the final day to pay your annual club dues. If your dues are not paid in full by the end of today’s meeting, it will be assumed that you do not wish to renew your membership with HSF for the following calendar year. This is a firm deadline, no exceptions.
Today is a club work day. With every ones help here is what is scheduled for completion:
Paining of our new runway with stripes and X’s on each end
Safety screen in front of our heli structure
Build 6 new work tables
Run electrical system under shade structures to provide power distribution for fans and electrical outlets. This will be used in conjunction with the new generator that the club is purchasing
Please volunteer with one of the work teams to help complete these items. Kyle, the head of the electrical team will need the most hands to install all the conduits and wiring.
PLEASE stay hydrated, it is very hot today and we don’t want anyone having a heat stroke. We have chilled bottled water in the coolers. Lunch will be provided, hotdogs & chips.
Todd made a safety point by suggesting that we do away with the frequency board all together and just let anyone and everyone fly as they want. Of course he was doing this as an obvious attempt to stress on all the members how we as members need to be vigilant and make sure only current members with AMA licenses are flying at our field. We could be sued if a non AMA member causes an accident. The club and its officers could be held directly accountable. PLEASE remember this is everyone’s club. We all have a 103th membership stake in its continued success.
Treasurer’s Report:
Billy Howard read the monthly financial statement. Currently we have 103 members and approximately $XXXX in our treasury. All but 10 members from last year have renewed their membership with HSF. Our membership cap of 100 will be allowed to float to accommodate only the prospective members who are here today and have submitted an application to HSF. The new applicants here today will be voted on at next month’s meeting for regular membership. These applicants need to send their email address and info along with a photo to club president Todd Brueggeman at the HSF website.
The 10 new prospective members were allowed to introduce themselves. Those new prospective members are: David Jones, Steven Vandelune, Preston Venable, Lee Dillenbeck, Svem Nilsen, Tomas Fischer, Henry Moore, Chris Newman & Brad Rich.
